As a follower of Christ, it is essential to accept that you will never be perfect. There will be times when you fail to do what God asks of you, make mistakes, or struggle with reading the Word, attending church, or even praying. There will be moments when you feel inadequate or unsuccessful.
But, remember this: God's love for you is unwavering, and His grace and mercy are sufficient to forgive you during these times. Knowing that He is always there, even in your failures, should bring peace to your heart and mind. We are called to be like Christ, but we will never be Christ because we are still flesh and constantly battle against it to do what God wants us to do.
Paul himself acknowledged this struggle in Romans 7:19, where he said, "For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing." We often find ourselves in the same situation, desiring to do good all the time but only managing it sometimes.
This does not mean we are bad people. It simply acknowledges that we are flawed. However, as long as we recognize our flaws, repent, and ask for forgiveness, we will be alright.
God knows we are flawed. He said we were born in sin and shaped in iniquity (Psalm 51:5). Despite this, He is a loving Father who extends grace to redeem us every time we fall.
We must not give up on this walk because it is hard but worth it. Embrace your imperfections, knowing that God's grace is more than enough. Continue striving to be like Christ, knowing that His love and forgiveness are always available.
In my previous post titled "A Perfect Man", I discussed the unattainable standard of perfection and how Christ alone exemplifies true perfection. Understanding this helps us accept our imperfections and rely on God’s grace.
Romans 7:18-19 (NIV): "For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing."
Remember, we are all works in progress, and God's love and grace cover us through every step of our journey. Keep pressing forward, trusting in His unfailing love and mercy.
